Does anyone here have a fish tank? Is it a fresh water tank, or a salt water set up?

I used to have a fresh water tank but my daughter would not stay out of it so I gave it to my mother in law. When the children are all older, I would love to own a salt water tank but I don't know if we could afford it! I have heard that they are very expensive ...

I have always kept a top on my tank so that way my cat andkids would stay out of it. They are so intrigued by the fact that there is open water with swimmy things in them, lol.

I haven't had one in a couple years, but I used to have a fresh water tank. I had goldfish, neons, and one or two other types of fresh water fish in it.
I always wanted a salt water tank, because you can get more beautiful fish to go in them, but everyone says salt water tanks are a pain, having to keep the right balance of salt in it, the exact temperature, and they say the fish are more "picky" meaning the temp, salt balance, etc, have to be just perfect or the fish won't survive.

I hear salt waters are hard to take care of but you can hire someone to come in and take care of it.

I've heard that it can be hard to keep fish healthy. Is this more of a problem with salt water tanks?

Salt water tanks are more expensive but it also takes alot more maitaneince as well. I think i would always stay with the fresh water tanks, less work.

You have to be a true lover of fish and organisms to do a salt water take, because that is more of a hobby for some.

I started out with a 20 gallon fresh community tank. I had two angel fish that laid eggs. I wasn't even trying to breed any of my fish. I have always had fresh but would love to try a salt set up someday.
